Stores selling licenses and gear for the opening of the Wisconsin fishing season

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Saturday is the start of the Wisconsin inland fishing season for this year.

Badger State retailers help sell licenses, including Northwest Outlet in Superior. “We’ve been selling a lot of licenses lately,” says Scott Miller. “There are a lot of people out there who are ready to get winter out of the way if the weather ever decides to turn around, but it looks like we could be heading in the right direction and get out this weekend and fish if they can. find some fresh water.

Miller says they are doing their part to have the proper supplies available. “Stuff happens. We have fishing rods. We have fishing reels. We have the line. We have decoys. We have a good selection. You might not find exactly what you’re looking for, but you’ll find something that’s close, and there are things happening every day and we’re doing everything we can to make sure the shelves are stocked and that the walls are full and we are ready to go.

With water temperatures still in the 30s and 40s in the area, Miller recommends people dress appropriately. “It’s that time of year when you don’t need a lot of wind change and the temperature drops 30 degrees when you’re at the lake. It’s just a matter of being prepared and having some extra clothes with you so you can put on some layers and warm up if it’s cold, or take some off and work to catch your sunburn when it’s hot. .

Miller adds that people should also have a water-repellent outer layer and a life jacket. “If you fall in the water, you don’t have very long before hypothermia sets in and it can be a very bad day very quickly.”
