Hopatcong Lake Fishing Report [04/30/2022]

Fishing was a bit slower with cooler temperatures, but picked up again for contest participants when the sun rose in the early afternoon on Sunday for the fishing contests.

Hopatcong Lake Guide Service Updates

LAKE RECORD HYBRID STRIPER!! Caught, officially weighed and released by LHGS guide, Kevin Cool!! The fish weighed 12 pounds 4 ounces – 28 1/4″ in length with a circumference of 21″! The fish was caught just after 2 a.m. on April 27and and weighed by Joe at Dow’s Bait Shop at 3:45 a.m.

Water temperatures have been everywhere lately thanks to inconsistent weather conditions, but that hasn’t stopped our LHGS customers and guides from boating with a bunch of beautiful fish this week! To date, the water temperature is around 53 degrees in the shallows and 46 degrees on the main lake.

The crappie bite during the day remains phenomenal. They are caught on a variety of lures almost every day and fathead minnows have produced excellent results when the conditions are tougher. Lots of trout, pike, bass and yellow perch were also hunted. Almost all fish in the lake are active at this stage.

The night sting for walleye and hybrid stripes has really picked up and lots of quality fish have been caught this week. Casting and trolling were both productive. Most of our damage was done in less than 10 feet of water.

The results of the KNC pike competition were as follows:

First place went to Hunter Good of Jefferson with a 2lb 11oz fish, winning $410.

The second place went to Jack Dziduch. He won $246 with a 2lb 7oz pike

Third place went to Dylan Cole of Newton with a 1lb 13oz pike, winning $131.

From fourth to fifth place received $20 gift certificates. They were awarded to Steve Schilling with a 1lb 13oz fish, Lou Marcucci with a 1lb 10oz fish and a 1lb 8oz pike caught by Greg White.

junior member Austin Robillard won a rod and reel combo with his 1lb 6oz pike.

The second place went to Rob Gaydos of Landing with a 1lb 15oz pike, winning $197

Fourth to sixth places also won gift certificates with a 1lb 13oz caught by Dave Smith. Tara Harriet with a 1lb 11oz brunette and John Moran with his 15oz trout.

Last week, a 2lb 1oz crappie caught by Jim Macaluso was also weighed. While trolling or casting small floating rapalas, husky jerks, or bombers, reports of hybrid striped bass and walleye have also been caught.

Walleye are caught and released only until May 1st.
